Retina / Vitreous Surgery

Retinal detachment surgery / vitrectomies – Advances in surgical techniques, new equipment and anaesthesia techniques mean that more and more surgeries can be performed under local anaesthesia and as outpatient surgeries, not only for retinal detachments but also for the multiple complications of diabetic retinopathy.

These surgeries continue to be, for the most part, used in serious cases that are difficult and technically complex to resolve, but advances in intraocular illumination techniques, intraocular injectable medications and surgical instruments have improved the prognosis of these retinal detachment interventions and diabetic retinopathy complications.

There has been an increasing trend towards the appearance of new pharmaceutical formulas for intraocular injection, with longer duration of effect and greater efficacy – usually in Age- Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) as well as in other pathologies of the macula.
