Diabetic retinopathy

This eye condition caused by diabetes can take many forms at different stages of its evolution.
It must be monitored through regular consultations and appropriate complementary tests.

Possible treatments:

• Laser therapy
• Intravitreal injections of anti-angiogenic agents
• Enzymatic vitreolysis
• Physical agents
• Surgery (vitrectomy)
• Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

This is a disease of the macula (the central area of the retina responsible for our best visual acuity) related, as the name suggests, to circulatory factors inherent to ageing.

The treatments currently available essentially involve the introduction of intraocular anti-angiogenic drugs, laser therapy such as photodynamic therapy and transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT).

Multi-vitamin and mineral food supplements are also used as adjuncts to therapies, as well as other forms of physiotherapy (TEC – Capacitive Electrical Transfer).
